Daniel Kerr Wins Full Contact Fight

Dunedin student Daniel Kerr represented Taekwon-Do at the Ultimate Fight Night held in Dunedin recently. The event, which was hosted by Fight Times and the Olympic gym, attracted around 1500 people according to Geof Todd of Fight Times.

Daniel faced an older opponent well versed in Kickboxing rules and the use of the ring. An exciting first round saw Daniel coming out firing much to the surprise of his opponent. This captured the crowds attention as one of the top fights of the evening. Although fatigue began to set in for Daniel after an amazing display of techniques his opponent began to faulter from the onslaught. Punishing side kicks and devastating back kicks soon took their toll. However, this guy has to be commended for his perserverence, endless kicks seem to have no effect in the first two rounds. A brave effort.

The final round resulted in Daniel putting on a display of flying techniques rarly seen with such accuracy, application and without the constraints of contact rules. Daniel concluded by finishing his opponent with an array of punches. There is no doubt that spectators left the event convinced of the power and effectiveness of Taekwon-Do training.

South Island Regional Tournament

The Annual roadtrip begins for South Island Taekwon-Do students. This years regional tournament is hosted by Nelson. Many would argue that the trip in itself is as exciting as the tournament, with at least 9 hours of travelling each way for Dunedin students and at least five hours for those travelling from Christchurch. When we talk about home advantage in the South Island we really mean it!

You have to go on one of these trips to truly understand the sheer madness of it. On one trip the driver who shall remain nameless (hb), faked running out of petrol late at night and in the middle of know where much to the enjoyment of a sleepy Jake Pearson. On another trip several missions were set and carried out much to the astonishment of unsuspecting petrol attendants. So if you are going to be part of the upcoming road trip get ready for plenty of fun, and if you arn't get your self on the trip. Oh by the way the Taekwon-Do is good too!!
