Grant Evans Promoted to IV Dan
The International Instructors’ Course was held in Palmerston
North on the weekend of 5-7 August 2006. This is only the
second time the course has been held in New Zealand, conducted
by Masters Hector Marano, Pablo Trajtenberg, and Wim Bos,
VIII Degree Black Belts and Members of the ITF Technical Committee.
Also, in attendance was the ITF President, Master Trân
Triêu Quân who taught aspects of Taekwon-Do Philosophy.
Over 90 members attended the Course including twelve members
from the South Island. The Course was a great success with
Instructors and Senior Members of the South Island taking
back the experience and updated knowledge and skills back
to their respective clubs to help keep the Region up to date
and help the Region to strengthen and continue to grow. The
course concluded with a senior dan grading, with our very
own Mr Grant Evans being promoted to IV degree, making him
the second IV degree in the South Island, along side Mr Kris
Herbison. Mr Steve Pellow from Counties Manukau was also promoted
to VI Degree.

More Mats for the South Island
The Region has now sucessfully applied and received funding
to purchase 260 additional mats for use at tournaments and
in training, both at regional trainings and for member clubs
to use at their trainings. There will now be 200 mats in Dunedin,
Christchuch and Blenhime/Nelson, this will allow us to use
safety mats at regional events and provide access to mats
to all the clubs in those areas.
These mats will mean that the members of the Region will
be able to train in a safer environment and be able to use
the same equipment as will be at competitions that they will
compete at. They will also allow the practivce of break-falling
and throwing and falling techniques to be practiced safely.

The Region would like to thank the
Eureka Trust, the First
Sovereign Trust, the Southern
Trust, and the Scottwood
Trust for their support in helping us to purchase this
important safety equipment.

Master & Mrs Rounthwaite Tour the South Island
During July Master Rocky Rounthwaite (VII Dan) and his wife
Mrs Trish Rounthwaite (V Dan) from Thailand visited the South
Island. First they visited the Riccarton Club for three sessions
and the Burnham Club while visiting Christchurch. They also
took a trip up to Blenhiem and attended a training there at
the Redwoodtown Club. They were well received at all these
trainings with really positive comments about their instruction
and great stories. "I spent about 10 minutes with Mrs
Routhwaite for Eui Am - by crikey I learnt so much in those
10 minutes!!! Master Routhwaite taught Shane [Mr Eade] his
first III Dan pattern and phew - neat stuff! Our coloured
belts were really impressed they enjoyed the one on one and
the self defence." Lorraine Eade (II Dan, Redwoodtown)

from all the clubs in Dunedin attended these trainings, which
were reported as fantastic. Then Master & Mrs Rounthwaite
journeyed to Alexandra where they visited our newest club
the Central Club.

Special Technique Holders
The Region has now successfully gained funding to purchase
4 new special technique holders at a cost of $2080 each, that
shoudl arrive in the Region ready for use in June 2006. The
new machines will be used for training and tournaments in
the Region. The holders will be kept by our member clubs so
that they can train for the special technique event with the
proper equipment. This should hopefully lead to an increased
level of skill and participation in this event for the Region.

Caversham Foundation
The Region would like to thant the Bendigo
Valley Sports and Charity Foundation, the New
Zealand Community Trust, the Southern Victorian Charitable
Trust, Pub
Charity, the Caversham Foundation, and The
Trusts Charitable Foundation for their support in purchasing

Polar Boards for the Region
The Region recently received funding from the Eureka Trust
which allowed us to purchase 20 polar boards for use in the
Regional Championships and for training of the Regional Team.
The power test event at the Regional tournament was far more
beneficial to the competitors who gained experience breaking
the same kind of boards as used at the Nationals. The Region
would like to thank the Eureka
Trust for providing this grant.
